MacNamara, The Chief, Ralph, and Som convened over breakfast at Hildegard’s.
“I think Etaname is more likely to go after both of them together, than if we keep them apart.” MacNamara stated his position over a towering breakfast bloody mary. “He knows neither of them can stand up to him, and he knows Mama Wata can only save one.”
Som added his thoughts. “Add Kaitlynn to the dynamic. She will follow Michael wherever he goes until she decides she is done with him, and that won’t happen while he’s around Ruby. That gives Etaname three targets.”
Chief Harrison asked MacNamara, “Does Etaname reason like this? Does he say to himself that he will go after three victims at the same time, knowing that we have eyes on them? Can we really predict him and bait him like this?”
MacNamara finished the French toast triangles garnishing his tomato cocktail. “I can’t rationalize for him, but I think he would accept the challenge to his growing power. After all, we are mortals. He is a god, if even only a lesser obscure river god. But each success makes him stronger. We need to catch him sooner than later.”
Som breached the next topic. “Speaking of. After we catch him, what next? What do we do with him?”
