In 2016, I submitted to an anthology focused on water deities, and even though it was rejected, the seeds for the plot and characters kept growing and developing in my mind’s eye. In 2018, I doubled the word count and sent it as a submission for a speculative fiction call from a studio. Thanks to the editors for their blunt feedback, I quickly recovered from the sting of Rejection and began formatting my first serial, intending to publish in chunks of 25,000 words.
